Touch Math Posters

...a "Friday Freebie" post

Are you familiar with Touch Math?

The short story:  children use touch points on numbers to help with counting and adding.  You touch/count solid dots once and outlined dots twice.  I created posters to hang in my classroom.  Here they are for you on this beautiful Freebie Friday!  :)

I really like this! I had a little boy last year that couldn't remember the numbers 7, 8 or 9. We tried EVERYTHING- chalk, play dough, shaving cream, driving cars over the shapes of the numbers, hopscotch, using the numbers as passwords, creating stories about the numbers. He could count objects, count to about 60, add and subtract. Together we made flash cards with stickers on them and if he came across those numbers in his work, he would pull out his cards out and count the stickers. I wonder if this would have worked for him...

It's funny, I'm on summer break, but part of me is still back at school!

I’ve tried using touch math posters as well and it really worked! We tried it every Tuesday and eventually every day until it became every child’s habit.

Thank you! This was a wonderful item to share and I am excited! We are using this and I don't have a lot of resources yet. You just made my day!

Very much appreciate the free posters. I learned this when I was in the first grade, but I don't think my daughter's teachers have been using this method. Think it will help her a lot!

I remember using this growing up. The only difference is the nine. Repeat four dots on top (like a 4) and the dot on the stick once. I will be using this again with my 3rd child who has been needing a little more aid in identifying and using numbers. Thanks for the reminder!
